Jen Mandel Owner/Trainer/Instructor Jen's love of horses started at an early age when her parents would take her trail riding when she was growing up in Washington State. She did not start taking formal riding lessons until her parents moved to Connecticut when she was 10 years old. Her formal riding career started at Rap-A-Pony Farm with Rita Rapuano where she learned Centered Riding and how to ride hunt seat. She was a 4-H member and competed at numerous local shows. At age 12 her parents bought her her first horse and she began to ride at Greyledge Farm under the guidance of Jimmy and Lisa Farrell. Here she learned how to ride western and improved upon her hunt seat skills. Jimmy was instrumental in getting Jen "hooked" on trail. Jen attended the University of Rhode Island and competed on the Equestrian Team and rode with coaches Maria Mack (Canterbury Farm) and Alison Ward (Sugarland Stables). Jen graduated from the University of Rhode Island with honors with a Bachelors of Science degree in Animal and Pre-Veterinary Science. After graduating, she started JDM Equine Services. The focus of the business was trail course design and set up. She worked as an assistant to Tim "the Trail Man" Kimura at various horse shows around the country. Jen then moved to Ohio where she was Trail Coordinator for the All American Quarter Horse Congress for numerous years. She eventually moved back to Connecticut to be closer to her family. Over the past 5 years, the business made a shift to include western dressage. With the new business direction came the change of the business name to commemorate the original family horse farm which was called Cedar Hill Ranch. Jen continues her classical dressage training with Tim Malin (USDF Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalist). In 2016, Jen decided to become an equine sports massage therapist as she saw how well it helped her horses in training. She offers massage therapy to clients on and off the ranch.
